Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne

The characters are Bruno and he is nine years old, Shmuel is a boy who lives in a strange parallel existence on the side of the adjoining wire fence and who, like the other people there, wears a uniform of striped pyjamas. Bruno is best friends with Shmuel. Who is Bruno? Is he the one that is in the striped pyjamas or is he the one who lives next door to the people in the striped pyjamas? Was Bruno born in jail? Does the friendship break out? This book is sad for a bit and then it is happy and then it is sad. People can see the movie but it is sad and people can read the book if they can read it. The sad thing is they were in World War 2 and all of the Jewish people had to go to jail. It wasn't fair that they had to go to jail. It made me cry it wasn't fair. Reviewed by Jackson Year 4G

In the morning John goes missing and Red Dog keeps looking from country to country to find him. This story is a sad story because RED Dog is looking for John for ages but can't find him. Once, Then, Now and After by Morris Gleitzman

Once, Then, Now and After is a great series to read because it is based on a true story about World War 2 and the horrible Nazi's. Personally I liked reading "Then" the most because it had lots of drama and I learnt lots of facts about concentration camps like Auswitcz that is a camp with gas chambers. In "Then" Felix has plans for him and Zelder, to dress up as someone else, find new parents, be safe forever. Then the Nazi's came. I recommend this great series for children 10 and over because there a good history series about World War 2 and what Hitler ordered to do to the Jews. I encourage Australian children and adults to read this series. Reviewed by Nic Year 4G

Meet Kirsten is the first book in a series of books by Janet Shaw. Kirsten Larson is a nine year old girl who is immigrating with her family from Sweden to Minnesota in 1854. Kirsten travels on a ship, then train, a riverboat and then walked the rest of the way to Uncle olav's farm. The trip took nearly 3 months. When Kirsten is on the riverboat there are lots of other pioneer families travelling to Minnesota. Because the riverboat is so crowded, there are diseases spreading around. Kirsten's friend Marta, who also travelled from Sweden, dies from Cholera. Kirsten feels very sad about her friend dying, and so did I. I enjoyed the book Meet Kirsten, but it was a very sad story. Dog is by Daniel Pennac and is a tragic story about an abandoned dog called Dog. Dog has lived in a junkyard his whole life. One day a little girl, Plum, saves Dog and takes him home where she feeds him and cares for him. Plum's family goes on vacation and takes Dog with them. When they stop to refill their gas and stretch their legs, Dog gets lost and they accidently leave him behind. Eventually Dog and Plum reunite because Dog walks all the way home. I loved this book because it showed how much dogs can love their owner. One part of the book that made me cry was when dog got left behind because Daniel Pennac told you about Dog's despair. The other part that made me cry was when Dog reunited with Plum, it was a love-filled moment and made me cry with happiness.
